Learn Something New Every Day

Ah...an important item in the field of Peep research, too long neglected by me (it's from 2003), and passed along by Catalogablog. This study focuses on the research habits of Peeps in the library, offering valuable insights such as the Peeps' tendency to employ advanced search techniques such as consultation with a librarian.

I note that Peeps do appear somewhat more likely than college students, the comparison group, to suffer injury and death on library premises. To avoid unfortunate accidents, then, one take-away message from this study is that Peeps should probably be closely watched while in the library.

But be careful who you have watching them, since some library staff may themselves pose a danger to sweet, sweet candy.

Not me, though. I'm more of a danger to chocolate than to marshmallow. Your Peeps are safe with me.

Keep It Coming...

I will say about Elsevier that they know how to bribe a librarian.

I mean, win a librarian's heart. Because the way to a librarian's heart is with a good bribe.

In celebration of National Medical Librarians Month, they've sent out postcards with codes you can redeem for either chocolate or coffee. I picked chocolate, but the results show coffee currently in the lead with 58% of the vote.

I imagine coffee gets some votes for its legendary ability to make coherent thought possible first thing in the morning. Me, I drink green tea, so coffee has little hold over me.

Chocolate, on the other hand...

Bribery aside, I should note that having entered about a million of them into the catalog, I do quite like Elsevier's ScienceDirect interface to e-journals.

Mmm, Sparkles

Mother Jones has an amusing post on a new candy bar from Mars called Fling.

It has sparkles on it, apparently. They're made of mica, which is a silicate mineral often enjoyed by me as a child when I found it in rocks or in the road. I liked to find it in big flat flakes; I'd imagine having a really huge sheet that I could use as a window pane in my magic rock house.

But enough about my childhood dreams. Let's talk about how I feel about sparkly candy!

Well, I can't tell you how long I've waited and yearned for sparkly candy. Almost as long as for sparkly vampires.

I can't tell you how long, because is "not" a length of time?

It's not that I'm actually opposed to sparkles on food or drink -- I enjoy the novelty of Goldschläger as much as the next person -- but I have to say, it simply isn't a really pressing need of mine. Not that I wouldn't take one if you're offering.
